Why Men –At the mid- and senior level management tiers, many women still feel like they are not being mentored appropriately. In fact, high-potential women report feeling over-mentored but under-sponsored. This trend may provide insight into why women are not promoted at the same rate as men. Both mentors and mentees need to establish the intent of the mentorship or sponsorship. High-potential women should be matched with mentors in a way that promotes the program goals. Additionally, sponsors should be trained on the complexities and difficulties that they may encounter. However, sponsors should be held accountable if they consistently fail to find candidates who are promotable and successful.
